HTC Thunderbolt & Nokia Astound

HTC Thunderbolt

With this much power, speed and Android™ awesomeness, it's not your dream phone. It's the one after that.

Infinite entertainment. Download movies, e-books, games, music and more in seconds. Pop out the kickstand, turn up the surround sound and enjoy hours of entertainment on the hi-res 4.3" screen.

Infinite possibilities. With an 8MP camera, LED flash, in-camera effects and a 720p HD camcorder, you can capture every moment in picture-perfect resolution. And with 4G uploads, you can unleash it instantly, for all your friends to see.

Phone screen, meet flatscreen. Built-in DLNA connectivity takes all the music, movies and photos on your phone and beams them up wirelessly to your flatscreen.

Beyond wireless. Launch a mobile hotspot and just like that, your phone turns into a wireless router, providing a Wi-Fi™ connection and the power of 4G for up to five devices.

The wait is over. With a 1GHz Snapdragon Processor and the power of Verizon's new 4G network, you can say goodbye to the loading bar. And with the new instant-boot feature, you can say hello, faster than ever before.

Nokia Astound

Nokia announced today that it is launching the Nokia Astound in the United States, a low-end smartphone geared toward first-time smartphone owners running the company’s Symbian mobile operating system.

The device is purposely built with slightly weaker technical specifications — including a 620 megahertz processor (compared to 1 gigahertz dual-core processors in most phones today) and around 300 megabytes of memory (compared to 512 megabytes in most phones), according to Nokia representatives. it keeps the phone simple and drives the price down, which is the device’s main selling point, said Mark Slater, vice president and general manager of Nokia.

“It’s their first smartphone, they’re not looking for $199, they’re looking for something under $99,” Slater said. “We’ve set this up so the apps and the way it’s built, it’s best for a feature phone user that wants to jump for a smartphone for the first time.”

The phone is designed to be used as-is and runs on Symbian 3, the latest version of Nokia’s oft-maligned smartphone operating system. it has a number of pre-loaded applications like Slacker Radio, an online streaming music service similar to Pandora. Astound owners can still download applications off the Ovi mobile application store.

The device will cost $79.99 along with a $10 data plan that gives users up to 250 megabytes of data each month. Most light users who buy a smartphone for the first time typically use around 180 megabytes a month across online music services and email, Slater said. the phone also sports an 8-megapixel camera that can shoot high-definition video and has an SD card slot to boost its storage up to 40 gigabytes.

Nokia has already agreed to work with Microsoft and will serve as Microsoft’s flagship Windows Phone manufacturer well into the next generation of smartphones. But Nokia does not plan to load Windows Phone 7 on the Nokia Astound, and is actually quite bullish on Symbian for the near future, he said. Nokia expects to sell about 150 million Symbian 3 devices like the N8, he said.

“(Windows Phone 7) is a whole new world for us, but it won’t be this device,” Slater said.

The device is exclusive to T-Mobile and will run on that phone network’s mobile broadcast spectrum. Slater wouldn’t indicate whether the device would also work on AT&T’s network in the future after the telecom giant purchased T-Mobile for $39 billion on Sunday.

By comparison, some of the cheapest smartphones running Google’s Android mobile operating system cost between around $80 to $100. It’s an uphill battle for Nokia because Android is more popular than Nokia’s smartphone operating system. the price point is competitive, but it isn’t clear if the software and hardware can compete with some of the cheapest Android phones on the market.

Creativity at it's Best - Are we moving forward ?

Just a while back I was talking to a friend and we began discussing the opportunities for growing Broadband and Internet business in India. The high cost is directly related to the wide user base and thus the two are inversely proportional. More the customer base, lesser the cost and vice versa.

Just as we were to end, I digressed over reviewing some new phone launches (HTC Arrive) and I wondered what makes the market so competitive with variety of phone launches every second day. It's like they weren't just phones but babies coming out of maternity ward.

But these babies are smart and their parents even (inventors) smarter. The pace at which this creative explosion is happening that anything new soon becomes a story of past and is preceeded by new technology.

Are the makers with seeming creativity at their best...get it best when:

- Competitive;
- Given freedom;
- Well bred;
- Just get it naturally;

This got me to the bigger question as to why just a few are more innovative and creative. For it may just seem a thought but got me to a long heard thought on we living to pull each other down more than to reach higher and therefore we all fail.

There is no creativity in it except being creative on how we can avoid others being creative.

56th Idea Filmfare Awards Night...!

Waited (eagerly) for the 56th filmfare Nite...was watchable (only coz of RK n IK) but technically (me no expert) a disaster...it weren’t a real awards nite...it was a stars nite (whch vry award is)..d Tech awards were rushed through....not enugh time given to music n othr contributers...sham(e) for the Filmfare team..

What the heck were you doin telecasting d awards a week late...poor editing...PC wearing dresses whch aint in order...no reality to d show...repeated smiles/poses from SRK, AB, Aish, Vidya , B, Kajol, Preity n KJo, gawd knws who else. D only non repititive faces were of Madhuri Dix, n newly wedded Ms. IK (Avantika) after the performance from IK and tribute to MD, that only the two were worth some reaction.

Not to miss Mr. Kites...whch reminds if it wasnt kites dat was newhere near...atleast Udaan (synonymn to kites coz both refer to escalation n talk of heights) rose to the occassion.

And the lady gaga of the evening ...with passionate SRK (Mr. 40+) were back in action with Raj romancing his Maya....not so young but back in action on Indian soil.

The entralling parts were performance by Sonu Nigam...it was a personalised touch to a glam show...with Shatru..Khamosh being a witness to Big B 40 years...n in praise (silent in his own way...was himself khamosh this time). It seemed as if the lost glory of his was revived in the form of his Dabang Daughter who won accolades n rose (to pck award) even bef her name announed and envelope opened.

There were lighter and emotional moments too from SRK pointing to Shatrughan S, as to how it feels to be a husband, be it a pathan or someone else, to Rishi Kapoor accepting the award for Do Dooni Chaar, remembering his last podium visit to accept his son’s award and one prior for his Father too. So it’s something in the Genes…from RK (Raj Kapoor) to RK (Rishi Kapoor) to RRK (Ranbir Raj Kapoor).

Both IK n RK took d show to heights...replacing SRK n Chotta Nawab...good dat Shahid wasnt called up to add to disaster. But both RK n PC (4rm Zee cine) copied....(Delta, Charlie) SRK really well...sm1 who cud do anything (itz 4 u to guess).

SRK again had his moments...he aint as humble as Big B and quoted what his wife had told him (to say and not to) but spoke his heart n mind out...for he thinks he wants it King Size...dis was a moment he shud have taken d moment and brought Ra-One(oopss dat BTW is A Rampal)...so a great opport. missed not by SRK but by Arjun...whoz yet to appear on Ra-One promos....even d fake onez online....neverthless...!

d awards went thru in a rush...gud dat there werent fake n weird moments like SRK shouting in midst on PC anchoring as Khan...from d apiglotis...(well done by RK n PC both). But the great part is the humor that Indian stars are showing toward themselves, though it werent as fun n fitted wen Akshay did it in Zee Cine. So none here is the king...the young Bees are making it well...whether it be likes of IK, SRK or promising new Ranbir (Bitto or Bunty Singh).

The magic of movie remains…whether it be RK or AB or SRK or RK once again…the show must go on.
